Two of the leading contenders in 2023 NFL MVP betting odds, Patrick Mahomes and Jalen Hurts, were on bye in week 10 and will go head-to-head in a colossal Monday Night Football matchup this week. Rookie CJ Stroud has also arrived on the scene after outdueling Joe Burrow on Sunday.

Before we check the updated MVP award odds, here’s where you can find the top betting sites for NFL football in 2023.

Regular Season MVP 2023

Mahomes or Hurts?

Patrick Mahomes (+300) remains the favorite despite placing sixth in the NFL in passing yards (2,442). The Chiefs pace the AFC with a 7-2 record, but most of the credit belongs to their defense. Kansas City currently ranks outside the top ten in points per game (23.1). Mahomes gets the benefit of the doubt based on past performance and name value. But to win the award, his stats will have to spike over the final eight games.

Jalen Hurts (+350) has Philadelphia off to a NFL-best 8-1 start. While he has fewer passing yards and passing TDs than Mahomes, his 22 combined scores trail only Josh Allen. With four games on tap with the Chiefs, Eagles, 49ers and Cowboys, Hurts’ MVP candidacy will be determined over the next month.

Tier 2 contenders

Tua Tagovailoa (+750) is top-three in passing yards (2,609) and passing TDs (19) with a sparkling passer rating (106.4) and yards per attempt (98.5). However, those numbers can largely be credited to Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniels and All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill. Tua will also have to face three of the NFL’s best defenses (Jets, Cowboys, Ravens) over the final month of the year.

Lamar Jackson (+900) has a shot at his second-career MVP trophy if the 7-3 Ravens grab the top spot in the AFC. But his statistics certainly aren’t flashy. His 2,177 passing yards rank 14th leaguewide and he has just 10 passing TDs with an additional five on the ground.

Does CJ Stroud have a shot?

With the 2023 NFL Rookie of the Year already wrapped up, CJ Stroud (+3300) is now generating NFL MVP buzz after passing for 356 yards and a TD in a 30-27 upset win over the Bengals in week 10. Stroud’s 2,626 passing yards trail only Sam Howell and Josh Allen and he has thrown 15 TDs to just 2 interceptions.

Sitting at 5-4 with an unimposing schedule, Stroud has a real chance to guide his Texans to the playoffs this year. While winning NFL MVP is a longshot, it’s certainly not out of the question.

Best Longshots

Joe Burrow (+1600) has the slimmest of margins to take home this award. His candidacy, along with the Bengals’ playoff chances would all but end with a loss to Baltimore on Thursday night. But if the 26-year-old can lead his team to the postseason with six or seven wins over the second half, his early-season calf injury will only help his narrative.

While Dak Prescott (+4000) likely has too much baggage to win MVP, his numbers are impressive. 2,415 passing yards, 17 TDs and 6 INTs with an elite 105. 1 passer rating. And Dallas has a remarkably easy schedule coming up. If Dak can outduel Hurts in the December rematch, he’ll get himself in the conversation.

Best Bet

We recommended Jalen Hurts at +1000 before the season so no way we’re switching course now. While the upcoming schedule is worrisome, his last three games (Giants, Cardinals, Giants) are tailor-made for racking up award-winning stats.
