Detroit casinos report stable $104.7 million February revenue, MGM leads with 47% market share

Detroit’s three casinos – MGM Grand Detroit,  MotorCity Casino, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown – reported $104.63 million in monthly aggregate revenue (AGR) for February 2024. Of the total, $104.76 million was generated from table games and slots, while retail sports betting saw a negative $124,853. 

MGM led the market shares for the month with 47%, followed by MotorCity at 30% and Hollywood Casino at Greektown at 23%.

February 2024 table games and slot revenue was almost stable from a year ago, decreasing 0.2% when compared to the same month in 2023. However, February’s revenue was up on a monthly basis, 11.6% higher than January 2024.

In comparison to February 2023, MGM experienced a 1.6% decrease to clock $49.2 million, while MotorCity saw an increase of 1.3%, reaching $31.6 million, and Hollywood Casino at Greektown recorded a 0.6% increase, settling at $23.8 million.

The three Detroit casinos paid $8.4 million in gaming taxes to the State of Michigan in January. They paid $8.5 million for the same month last year. The casinos also reported submitting $12.5 million in wagering taxes and development agreement payments to the City of Detroit in February.

The casinos reported $13.2 million in total retail sports betting handle, but total gross receipts came at a negative $120,142 for February. Retail sports betting qualified adjusted gross receipts (QAGR) in February were down by $583,605 when compared to the same month last year. Compared to January 2024, February QAGR was down by $625,073.

For January 2024, fantasy contest operators reported total adjusted revenues of $1.1 million and paid taxes of $92,552.
