The third week of the 2024 PFL regular season takes place Friday at Wintrust Arena in Chicago, IL. This week features welterweight and featherweight fighters looking to pick up important points that will allow them to qualify for the 2024 PFL Playoffs, with the ultimate prize being a spot in the 2024 PFL World Championship card. The winners of that event take home a PFL title and a prize of $1 million.

Last year, Jesus Pinedo defeated Gabriel Alves Braga to win the featherweight tournament. In the welterweight championship, Magomed Magomedkerimov became a two-time PFL tournament winner with a victory over Sadibou Sy. Pinedo and Magomedkerimov are not listed as participants in the 2024 PFL regular season. Both men were forced to withdraw from scheduled bouts against Bellator champions in February due to injury.

Here is the breakdown of how PFL fighters earn regular season points: A win is worth three points, a draw is worth one point, and a loss is worth zero. Fighters earn bonus points for a stoppage based on the round. A first-round stoppage gets the fighter three bonus points, a second-round stoppage two points, and a third-round stoppage one point. In the case of a tie in the standings, the fighter with faster finishes gets the tiebreaker.

Andrey Koreshkov vs. Magomed Umalatov betting picks

Andrey Koreshkov (27-4) is a former Bellator welterweight champion. He won the title in 2015 with a decision over Douglas Lima and defended the crown in 2016 by beating former UFC lightweight champ Benson Henderson. Koreshkov lost the belt in 2016 when Lima knocked him out in their rematch. He is 8-2 since then. Friday marks his first fight under the PFL banner.

Magomed Umalatov (14-0) has fought under the PFL banner five times. He has a perfect 5-0 record with three knockouts and two decision wins.

At 33, Koreshkov has battled tougher competition than his 32-year-old opponent. Umalatov’s record looks impressive at 14-0, but he has yet to face an opponent as seasoned or as dangerous as Koreshkov during that run.

The betting pick in this welterweight matchup is for Andrey Koreshkov to beat Magomed Umalatov by decision.

Brendan Loughnane vs. Pedro Carvalho betting picks

Brendan Loughnane (27-5) won the 2022 PFL featherweight tournament with a TKO win over Bubba Jenkins. However, the 34-year-old fell short in 2023, failing to make the playoffs after a first-round knockout loss in the second regular season matchup. Loughnane TKOd Marlon Moraes in the second round of their season-opening bout. In 2021, Loughnane made it to the semifinal round of the featherweight tournament, losing to Movlid Khaybulaev by split decision. The 2022 PFL champ has a 9-2 PFL record.

Pedro Carvalho (13-8) has never fought for PFL before. However, the 28-year-old has battled it out under the Bellator banner for the past six years. Carvalho has a 6-5 Bellator record. He opened his run with the promotion with four wins, but he struggled when he faced tougher competition. Carvalho is currently on a two-fight losing skid, dropping a decision to Jeremy Kennedy in 2023 and losing to Aaron Pico by TKO later that year.

The betting odds in this matchup are not favorable if one is leaning toward Brendan Loughnane. While the betting pick is for Brendan Loughnane to beat Pedro Carvalho by knockout, there is a great deal of betting value in picking Carvalho to pick up an upset victory.

Logan Storley vs. Shamil Musaev

A former Bellator welterweight world title challenger, Logan Storley (15-2) is fighting in his first PFL regular season bout on Friday. The 31-year-old Storley was a four-time All-American wrestler for Minnesota. Storley is coming off an August 2023 TKO win over Brennan Ward in a Bellator matchup. The finish was Storley’s first stoppage since 2019.

Shamil Musaev (14-0-1) is making his PFL debut on Friday. The 30-year-old has fought under the KSW banner and is coming off a July 2023 TKO win over Alexey Kunchenko for Russia Cagefighting Championship.

Musaev is an aggressive fighter on the feet, which will play into Storley’s wrestling-based approach to MMA. Look for Storley to avoid his opponent’s strikes in this matchup and get the fight to the mat. . The betting pick is for Logan Storley to beat Shamil Musaev by decision.
