2024 Most Outstanding Player

Recent award trends

Like the NFL MVP, this award usually goes to signal callers. Quarterbacks have won the past three Most Outstanding Player trophies and seven of the past eight.

Team performance also factors in heavily. Chad Kelly won the 2024 after leading the Toronto Argonauts to a league-best 16-2 record. And Zach Collaros claimed the honor in 2021 and 2022 when his Winnipeg Blue Bombers topped the standings both years.

Vernon Adams favored

Vernon Adams (+500) passed for a CFL-best 4,769 yards in 2023 with 31 touchdowns and 18 interceptions while adding 324 rushing yards and a score on the ground. After leading B.C. to a 12-6 record and a berth in the western conference final, the 31-year-old signed a contract extension in the offseason.

With a loaded receiving corps featuring Jevon Cottoy, Alexander Hollins and Keon Hatcher, it’s Grey Cup or bust for Adams and the Lions in 2024.

Other MOP contenders

Zach Collaros (+600) is looking for his third-career Most Outstanding Player trophy. The 35-year-old led the CFL in passing TDs (33) in 2023, four shy of his career high the previous year. His Blue Bombers are also the betting favorites to make it to their fifth-straight Grey Cup Final and take home the championship.

Brady Oliveira (+800) will be hard pressed to win the award if Collaros stays healthy. Winnipeg’s 26-year-old backfield weapon captured the Most Outstanding Canadian Award in 2023 with a league-leading 1,534 yards on the ground. However, a running back hasn’t won the MOP since 2013.

Fade the old guys

Bo Levi Mitchell (+1000) claimed this award in 2016 and 2018 with the Stampeders, but the 33-year-old only suited up for six games with Hamilton last year before getting injured. His numbers weren’t exactly spectacular with 1,032 passing yards, six TDs and 10 interceptions.

Cody Fajardo (+1000) had a much better debut season with his new franchise, leading the Montreal Alouettes to a surprise Grey Cup victory. However, he passed for only 14 TDs and 12 INTs in 18 regular season games in 2023.

Best Bet

While it’s never fun to grab a favorite, Vernon Adams (+500) is an obvious Most Outstanding Player pick with Chad Kelly suspended and Zach Collaros aging. Entering his second season with the Lions, the 31-year-old dual threat QB is poised for a career year.
