Alexis Lebrun
Lebrun’s sensational form has propelled him up the world rankings. The world number 22 won the most recent tournament, the WTT Contender Zagreb, in fine fashion. He won the final 4-1 and looked very comfortable against Japan’s Shunsuke Togami.
Back in May, the 20 year old from France beat his upcoming opponent on a run to the final of the WTT Contender. He ultimately went on to lose 4-1 in the final. The match against Cheng-Jui Kao was at the quarter-final stage and he won 3-0 (12-10, 11-6, 11-8).
Cheng-Jui Kao
The 19 year old from Taiwan is better known as a doubles player but is starting to make a name for himself in the singles circuit. Kao is a highly thought of prospect but is yet to make much of an impact in big tournaments. Kao was eliminated in the first round of his most recent tournament in Zagreb but it was a close encounter with Korea’s Jaehyun An. An would go on to lose to Lebrun in the semi-final.
Kao has lost his last two singles matches against Lebrun. It was 3-1 on both occasions. In between those clashes, he also lost to Lebrun and his brother Felix in a doubles match. Talking of Felix Lebrun, the world number five was made to work hard for a world cup victory over Kao in April. Kao won 32 points but succumbed to a 3-1 defeat.
Prediction
Kao is a tenacious player who will go on to big things in the sport. However, it’s impossible to back against the form of Alexis Lebrun. I think the Frenchman will make it ten wins in a row.
