2024 Austrian Grand Prix

Verstappen favored at Red Bull Ring

Max Verstappen (-190) holds a 69-point edge in the drivers’ standings following his triumph at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. The Dutchman won in Spain despite not having the fastest car. He passed Lando Norris and George Russell early on in the race and built up just enough of a lead to cross the finish line first.

Sitting on 61 career victories, Verstappen has captured four of the past six races at Red Bull ring.

Norris’ missed opportunity

Lando Norris (+300) secured just the second pole of his career last weekend, but had to settle for his fourth-runner up finish of the year. “We should have won today,” said Norris after the Spanish GP. “I quite easily had the best car there. I just didn’t do enough job off line. That one thing cost me everything.”

On the bright side, Norris passed Charles Leclerc (+1400) in points and now sits No. 2 overall in the drivers’ standings for the first time in his career.

Mercedes faster than Ferrari?

Both Leclerc (+1400) and Carlos Sainz (+2000) were uncompetitive in Barcelona on Sunday, finishing fifth and sixth respectively. With the Scuderia performing much better on street circuits this season, neither driver looks to be a good bet in Austria.

Since making upgrades to their car before the Canadian Grand Prix, Mercedes has been faster than Ferrari. Lewis Hamilton (+2000) secured his first podium of 2024 with a third-place finish in Spain, just ahead of teammate George Russell (+2000). Russell also finished third in Montreal.

Anyone’s race?

Four different drivers have earned pole position over the past four races, proving that Red Bull no longer holds a decisive advantage. However, while Mercedes and McLaren have had the fastest car in the past two events, it was Verstappen who raced to his 60th and 61st career wins.

Best Bet

Verstappen (-190) has yet to win three-straight races this season, but he captured seven events in a row in the middle of last season and finished the year on a 10-race winning streak.

On one of his favorite tracks, the three-time reigning world champion should pick up another victory in Austria this Sunday.
