Defending MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia looks to do something this week that he has not accomplished since the 2022 MotoGP season, and that is to win three MotoGP races in a row. Bagnaia is coming off victories at the Catalan Grand Prix and the Italian Grand Prix heading into this week’s Motul TT Assen, otherwise known as the 2024 Dutch Grand Prix. Bagnaia’s best stretch of victories came in 2022 when he ran off four wins in a row. The streak began with a checkered flag in the Dutch GP.
Despite his victories in Catalan and Italy, Bagnaia is in second place in the championship standings for the 2024 season. He sits behind Jorge Martin, who has 171 points on the year. Bagnaia has 153 points. Marc Marquez is in third place with 136 points. Martin placed third in Italy and Marquez finished in fourth.
The TT Circuit Assen is 4.54 kilometers in length with 12 right corners and six lefts. The longest straightaway on the course is 487 meters. Marco Bezzecchi has the all-time lap record of 1:31.472, which he set in 2023. Aleix Espargaro holds the course record for best race lap at 1:32.500 in 2022.

Francesco Bagnaia
After a bit of a slow start in the early weeks of the 2024 MotoGP season, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, is back to his winning ways. The 27-year-old opened the year with a win in Qatar, but then did not finish in Portugal. He then placed fifth in America. Since then, Bagnaia has been on a roll, winning three out of four races and placing third on the one track (France) where he did not earn the checkered flag.
Bagnaia has dominated the Dutch GP in the past two years, winning the race in 2022 and 2023 and placing sixth on the course in 2021.
With his performance in the past four MotoGP outings and his success on this track in the past, look for the defending MotoGP world champ to be very confident heading into the Dutch GP. Bagnaia rides for Ducati Lenovo.
Jorge Martin
The 26-year-old Jorge Martin is looking for his first win at the Dutch GP. He has three MotoGP starts on this course. Martin did not finish the race in 2021. He then placed seventh in 2022 and moved up to fifth last year. Martin, who rides a Ducati for Prima Pramac Racing, has started the 2024 MotoGP season strong. Still, he needs to be at his best as his lead over Bagnaia in the standings is not secure with how well the defending champ has been performing recently. Martin’s shaky start in 2023, when he failed to finish two of the first three races, was one of the reasons he finished second to Francesco Bagnaia in the overall standings last year.
This year, Martin has two wins, one runner-up finish, two third-place finishes, and a fourth. He did not finish the Spanish GP and is coming off a third-place in Italy.
Martin is known as an aggressive rider, but he has dialed that in a little this year.
Marc Marquez
Heading into the 2024 MotoGP season, the biggest concerns for the legendary Marc Marquez were his health and how he would perform with his new team. After 11 years with Honda, the 30-year-old is now on a Ducati for Gresini Racing. As for his health, Marquez has started all seven MotoGP races in 2024, and outside of not finishing in America and placing 16th in Portugal, Marquez has been among the top four finishers in his other five starts during the 2024 MotoGP season. However, Marquez is still looking for his first win of 2024. The last time Marquez won a MotoGP race was in 2021, when he placed first three times before finishing the year in the No. 7 spot in the standings.
Marquez has eight starts at the Dutch GP. He won the race twice, in 2014 and 2018, while finishing the runner-up spot on four occasions. Marquez has not competed on the TT Circuit Assen since 2021 when he placed seventh.
Marquez is racing well this year, so one should consider him when placing a wager on any race in the 2024 MotoGP season.x
