Men’s Rugby 7s Gold Medal Winner
Argentina and France favored
Argentina (+300) and France (+300) are the favorites to capture gold. The French defeated the Argentinians 19-5 in the championship game of the 2023 World Rugby Sevens Series. However, Argentina won three of the eight tournaments in the series, placing first with 106 points versus France’s 80.

Fiji aims for Olympic three-peat
Fiji (+400) is looking for its third-consecutive gold medal in men’s rugby sevens. The small island nation in the South Pacific won its first-ever Olympic medal in Rio 2016, defeating Great Britain in the final. The Fijians defended their title in Tokyo 2020, going unbeaten in pool play before downing New Zealand 27-12 in the gold medal game.
Fiji also won the 2022 Rugby World Cup Sevens, and has placed third in the World Rugby Sevens Series in each of the past three years.
Other contenders for gold
New Zealand (+350) placed third in the standings in the 2023 Sevens Series, before falling to Fiji 17-10 in the bronze medal match. The Kiwis have lost to their longtime rivals a lot in recent years. This includes finals defeats at the 2022 World Cup Sevens and the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, where they again settled for silver.
Ireland (+1000) finished second behind Argentina in the 2023 Sevens Series regular season. But, they didn’t win any of the eight events before eventually finishing fifth with a 12-7 victory over South Africa.

South Africa (+1400) defeated England in late June in Monaco to claim the 12th and final ticket to the Olympics. The Blitzboks claimed the bronze in Rio 2016, but finished a disappointing fifth place at Tokyo 2020.
