The reigning gold medalists from France look to defend their men’s title on homecourt against talented squads from Poland and Italy. Meanwhile, Italy and Turkey are favored in women’s volleyball over the U.S., who won gold in Tokyo in 2021.

Men’s Volleyball Winner
Poland favored for gold
Poland (+350) won the the 2023 Men’s European Volleyball Championship last September, with a 3-0 set victory over the Italians. They also claimed the gold medal on their home court at the 2023 FIVB Volleyball Men’s Nations League in July 2023, defeating the United States in four sets.
The Poles haven’t even medaled in Olympic competition since taking home gold in Montreal in 1976. But, with nine players who suited up in Tokyo three years ago, they have a deep, experienced team that’s been racking up wins on the world stage as of late.

Other top contenders
Italy (+550) lost to the Poles on their homecourt last summer at the European Volleyball Championship. However, the Italians downed Poland in 2022 to claim the country’s first world championship in 24 years. They also ended a 16-year drought at EuroVolley 2021. While the nation is still looking for its first gold medal in men’s volleyball, Italy did win silver at Rio 2016 and bronze at London 2012.
France (+650) took home its first-ever gold medal in men’s volleyball in Tokyo. The French were also victorious at the 2024 FIVB Men’s Volleyball Nations League a few weeks ago, defeating Poland 3-2 in the semifinals before stomping Japan (+900) in the finals
Women’s Volleyball Winner
Italy or Turkey?
Italy (+300) is favored in the women’s tournament despite having never medaled in Olympic competition. The Italians are coming off a 3-1 victory over Japan (+1200) in the finals of the 2024 FIVB Women’s Volleyball Nations League. They also scored a 3-0 win over Poland (+1000) in the semifinals.
Turkey (+450) suffered a narrow 3-2 loss in the FIVB quarterfinals versus the Poles. However, this same Turkish team was victorious at the 2023 Women’s European Volleyball Championship.

Who else could win?
Brazil (+500) suffered an upset 3-2 loss in the FIVB semifinals to Japan a few weeks back. The Brazilians claimed the silver medal in Tokyo, falling 3-0 to the Americans in the final.
The reigning gold medalists from the USA (+500) have medaled in each of the past four Summer Games, but the Italian women destroyed them at the 2024 FIVB quarterfinals.
