Viktor Axelsen (+390)
Viktor Axelsen of Denmark, who was Europe’s sole medalist in Tokyo with a gold, has emerged as the top qualifier for Paris. This will be the third Olympic appearance for the 30 year old. He previously won bronze in Rio de Janeiro in 2016. The former World No. 1 is placed in Group P with Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen, Israel’s Misha Zilberman, and Nepal’s Prince Dahal. Axelsen is expected to sail through the group matches. The main question is whether he can claim a third Olympic medal. He is currently at +390 odds to win gold.
Other Contenders
In Group H, Indonesia’s Anthony Ginting, a bronze medalist from the previous Olympics, sees a golden opportunity with his former semi-final opponent, Long Chen, now retired. Ginting, currently ranked World No. 9, will compete in a group with Toma Popov from France Junior and Howard Shu from the USA. Ginting is expected to advance through the group matches with ease. He is +1200 to win gold with BetOnline.
World No. 4 Anders Antonsen from Denmark is anticipated to dominate his group matches. He plays against Ade Resky Dwicahyo and Austria’s Collins Valentine Filimon. Antonsen is currently listed at +800 to win gold with BetOnline. He has a strong chance of reaching the podium at the Paris Olympics.
Meanwhile, Lakshya Sen, known as the “new star of Indian badminton,” faces a tough challenge in Group L. He competes against Jonatan Christie, Kevin Cordon, and Julien Carraggi, making it one of the most competitive groups in the event.

Since badminton debuted at the Barcelona 1992 Olympics, China has dominated the sport, winning 47 medals, including 20 golds. They continued their success at Tokyo 2020, securing six medals. Indonesia is the second most successful nation, with 21 medals, including eight golds. Will China and Indonesia maintain their dominance, or will emerging European talent disrupt the standings?
