CFL Grey Cup 2024 Futures Picks | 08-19-2024

As the league hits the midseason point, the CFL picks are showing the Montreal Alouettes as +200 co-favorites to win the Grey Cup. No surprise there.

After all, the Als are the reigning Grey Cup champions. And with a 9-1 record, Montreal is also the runaway leader in the current league standings.

It’s the co-favorite at Bovada Sportsbook that bettors will likely find to be somewhat surprising, perhaps even a bit puzzling. The B.C. Lions are also slotted in with a Grey Cup betting line of +200. They currently sit second in the West Division with a mediocre 5-5 record for the year.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers (+550), Toronto Argonauts (+600), Saskatchewan Roughriders (+650) and Ottawa RedBlacks (+700) are given Grey Cup betting odds shorter than +1000 in the CFL picks.

When you’re done analyzing the latest CFL picks and are all set to place your Grey Cup wager, these are the top football mobile betting apps that we recommend. And don’t forget that there’s always plenty of football action to be played throughout the year. When CFL season is all done, there’s always the NFL. And these are the best NFL betting sites when it comes time to bet on some four-down football.

Defending Champs Top CFL Picks

What’s not to like about the Alouettes? Even down to third-string quarterback Davis Alexander, Montreal just keeps on winning. They won 27-24 at Saskatchewan in their last game, sweeping the season series among the league’s division leaders.

With No. 1 QB Cody Fajardo all set to return from injury, the Als have won a club-record eight successive road games.

Going back to last season, they’ve lost just once over the past 18 games. Montreal is threatening to equal the club-record 12-1 start set in 2004.

Lions Getting Grey Cup Love From Oddsmakers

It’s been a tale of two seasons so far for the Lions. Following a season-opening loss at Toronto, B.C. won five in a row. Now the Lions have lost four straight games.

The recent addition of Canadian QB Nathan Rourke from the NFL is sparking a resurgence in B.C. futures in the CFL picks. However, the 2022 CFL Most Outstanding Canadian was so mediocre during his return in a 20-11 loss to Winnipeg that he issued a public apology for his performance.

Rourke does have an inviting target in wide receiver Justin McInnis. McInnis is leading the CFL in receiving touchdowns (six) and receiving yardage (834).

Blue Bombers Best Before Date Expired?

It’s been a rough campaign for the Blue Bombers, who’ve played in the past four Grey Cup games. Still, it’s always dangerous to count out a team that’s been there so many times before.

Are Winnipeg’s consecutive wins over B.C. the beginning of a turnaround? At 4-6, the Bombers aren’t exactly stalwart. But then again, no team in the West is looking particularly invincible.

Argonauts Only Team To Beat Alouettes

Not only are the Argos the only team to hand Montreal a defeat this season, dealing the Als a decisive 37-18 setback on July 11, Toronto was the CFL’s best team last season. That was until being upset by Montreal in the East Final.

There’s big news in Toronto this week, though. QB Chad Kelly, last year’s CFL Most Outstanding Player, has been reinstated from league suspension. He’s been sidelined since May for violating the CFL’s gender-based violence policy.

Roughriders Leading Wild West

Like B.C., Saskatchewan is wildly inconsistent.  After a 4-0 start to the season, the Roughriders now are 5-4-1. That includes an 0-3-1 slate over their last four games.

Getting veteran QB Trevor Harris back could be the spark Saskatchewan needs. He missed six games with a sprained left medial collateral ligament.

RedBlacks In Black Of CFL Picks

You have to go all the way back to the mid-to-late 1970s to find the previous time in CFL history when both Montreal and Ottawa were the scourge of the East. At 6-2-1, the RedBlacks own the league’s second-best record.

Ottawa is 4-0-1 over the past five games. The RedBlacks are the only road team to win a game at Calgary this season. Ottawa’s defense is allowing a league-low 5.27 yards per play.

Elks Making Charge As Grey Cup Longshot

Edmonton started 0-5 under head coach Chris Jones. At one point the Elks had dropped 20 games in a row. They since changed the coach, the GM and even the owner. Suddenly under interim head coach Jarious Jackson, Edmonton has won three in a row.

There’s only 2.5 games between first and last in the CFL West. Are the Elks worth a longshot play? Wild and crazy things are known to happen in the CFL. And Edmonton is the league’s No. 1 scoring offense, averaging 29. 1 points per game. QB Dakota Prukop has run for a CFL-best seven touchdowns.

Als Are CFL Pick For Grey Cup

During a season in which mediocrity has settled in nicely within so many CFL teams, the Alouettes are a juggernaut. And this powerhouse squad is just getting better.

Receiver Austin Mack is returning to the fold after being cut by the NFL’s Atlanta Falcons. He was a CFL All-Star for the Grey Cup champs last season.
