Marc Marquez’s long wait for a MotoGP victory ended on Sunday when the legendary rider took first place at the Aragon Grand Prix. The victory marked the first win for Marquez since he won back-to-back races late in the 2021 season. Marquez looks to make it two in a row this weekend when the MotoGP schedule heads to Italy for the 2024 San Marino GP. Jorge Martin was the runner-up last week, and Pedro Acosta finished in third. Last year’s MotoGP champion, Francesco Bagnaia, did not finish the race. He was involved in a crash with Marquez’s brother Alex with six laps left in the race.
The Misano World Circuit is a 4.23 kilometer course with 10 right corners and six lefts. The longest straight on the track is 530 meters. Martin holds the all-time lap record on the circuit at 1:30:390. He set that record in 2023. Bagnaia holds the best race lap record at 1:31:791, also set in 2023. The top speed record on the track is 305.9 km/hr, which is held by Marco Bezzecchi. He hit that mark in 2023. Jorge Martin won the 2023 edition of the San Marino GP. Bezzecchi placed second and Bagnaia finished in third.

2024 San Marino GP betting picks
Francesco Bagnaia
After a somewhat slow start in the early weeks of the 2024 MotoGP season, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP world champion, Francesco Bagnaia, remains in the hunt for a third straight MotoGP world championship despite not finishing last week’s Aragon GP following a late crash. The race marked the second time this season that Bagnaia did not finish. His first retirement came in the second race of the season after he opened the 2024 campaign with a win in Qatar. Between the two retirements, Bagnaia won six times, placed third twice and had one fifth place finish.
Bagnaia has performed well at the San Marino GP. He has five starts on the course since joining the MotoGP ranks with back-to-back victories in 2021 and 2022. Last year he placed third on the course behind Martin and Bezzecchi.
Bagnaia lost a fair amount of ground in the points race to Martin following last week’s race. He is now trailing the points leader by 23 points.
Jorge Martin
With a runner-up finish in the British GP, Jorge Martin took back the lead of the 2024 MotoGP points standings. However, he could not hold onto that lead long, as his runner-up finish in Austria, where he started on the pole, dropped him back to second place in the standings behind the defending champ, Bagnaia. Martin is back on top after he placed second in Aragon, and Bagnaia did not finish. Martin, who was the runner-up to Bagnaia at the end of last season, has 299 points while Bagnaia has 276.
Known for his aggressive approach on every course, the 26-year-old Martin, has started three times in San Marino as a MotoGP rider. In 2021 he did not finish the race. He placed ninth in 2022 and won the race in 2023.
Martin has two wins in 2024, five runner-up finishes, and two third-place finishes. He has not finished two races this season. Martin’s last win came in France in May, but he’s been incredibly consistent since then, placing five times and third once. He did not finish in Germany.
Marc Marquez
Heading into the 2024 MotoGP season, the biggest concerns for the legendary Marc Marquez were his health and how he would perform with his new team. After 11 years with Honda, the 30-year-old is now on a Ducati for Gresini Racing. As for his health, Marquez has started all 12 MotoGP races in 2024, and outside of not finishing in America, placing 16th in Portugal, and finishing in 10th in the Netherlands, Marquez has been among the top four finishers in his other five starts during the 2024 MotoGP season.
Heading into the Aragon GP last week, the last time Marquez won a MotoGP race was in 2021, when he placed first three times before finishing the year in the No. 7 spot in the standings. He had finished as the runner-up three times. Marquez’s winless run ended last week when he won the Aragon GP for the sixth time in his career.
On Sunday, Marquez looks to pick up his fourth win in San Marino. The last time Marquez won this race was in 2019. Last year he placed seventh.

However, Martin has been much more consistent this year, finishing in second place five times out of seven starts since his last victory.
