Nate Oats and his Alabama (+275) team leads the latest futures betting to win the SEC in the Men’s NCAA Basketball regular season. The Tennessee Volunteers topped the conference in 2024. But with the Crimson Tide for competition, the Volunteers are outsiders to win again in the latest NCAAB futures betting.

  • The 2024/25 Men’s College Basketball season starts in early November
  • Tennessee won the 2023/24 SEC regular season with a conference record of 14-4
  • The SEC is expanding from 14 schools to 16 for the upcoming season

Preparations for the new NCAA Men’s Basketball season continue, and with the tip-off getting ever closer, we are looking ahead to the SEC.

Tennessee topped the regular-season table in 2024, with Auburn winning the championship match against Florida (86-67).

Both Auburn and Florida will be looking to build on their respective seasons. But with the SEC set to become even more competitive, they will both have their work cut out.

Not only will the rest of the conference have pre-season favorites, the Alabama Crimson Tide, to compete with. They will now also have to compete with Oklahoma and Texas, as the SEC welcomes two new members.

With the addition of the Sooners and the Longhorns, the SEC has expanded from 14 schools to 16. The addition of both not only adds to the numbers but – particularly in the case of the Longhorns – also to the quality.

Betting to win the SEC Regular Season

The Alabama Crimson Tide made it to the Final Four in the 2024 NCAA playoffs. As a result, the top college basketball betting sites make Alabama their +275 betting favorite to win the SEC in the 2024/25 regular season.

The bookmakers are split on who will represent the biggest threat to Nate Oats’ team, with Arkansas and Auburn at +450 joint-second favorites.

Last season’s SEC table-toppers, the Tennessee Volunteers, are next in the betting at +750.
At +900, Kentucky can’t be ruled out. And the same can be said about last season’s SEC Tournament runners-up, Florida, who are +1200.

The two new sides in the conference aren’t among the favorites. The Texas Longhorns are the more favored at +1600. But the Oklahoma Sooners find themselves at +6000. They are the 12th-betting favorite out of the 16 schools.

Alabama is the justified betting favorite

The Crimson Tide (+275) broke new ground last season, reaching the Final Four for the first time in their history.

As well as retaining the majority of their playing roster who did so well last season, the Crimson Tide has added top-quality recruits Derrion Reid and Aiden Sherrell.

Nate Oats will no doubt be looking for more consistency across the regular season. And with a 25-12 overall record, and a 13-5 conference record in 2023/24, Oats will know that better is needed to win the regular-season title in 2025.

Arkansas and Auburn

The bookmakers see both Arkansas and Auburn as potential winners of the 2025 SEC regular season.

Arkansas (+450) is beginning life without head coach Eric Musselman. After a five-year stint, Musselman left to take over the USC Trojans.

Into the shoes of Musselman steps John Calipari. The former Kentucky head coach is inheriting a strong playing roster, but one which struggled last season, finishing with an overall record of 16-17, their worst performance since 2009/10.

The Auburn Tigers (+450) will start the new season with plenty of confidence after finishing their last campaign with a conference record of 13-5, and also winning the SEC Tournament.

They will be boosted by the news that Johni Broome is staying put.

Can the Volunteers win again?

At +750, the bookmakers suggest they don’t see the Tennessee Volunteers going back-to-back.

These odds seem a bit harsh. As well as winning the 2024 SEC with a 14-4 record, the Vols also had an impressive overall record of 27-9 and made it to the Elite Eight, where they were eventually beaten by the 2024 Championship runners-up Purdue.

The main reason for the long odds is no doubt down to the departure of Dalton Knecht. The 2023/24 SEC Player of the Year departed the Volunteers after being drafted by the LA Lakers in the off-season.

Any outriders to keep an eye on?

The Florida Gators (+1200) had an impressive 2023/24 season, finishing with a 24-12 record, their best since their 2016/17 campaign. The campaign was a major improvement for Todd Golden, who could only manage a 16-17 finish in his one previous season at the O’Connell Center.

It will also be interesting to see how the Texas Longhorns (+1600) get along in the SEC. Last season they went out of the NCAA Tournament at the Round of 32 stage. But they are a talented and consistent side. Also boosting the ranks this season is freshman Tre Johnson.

Best bets

With the way the odds are currently sitting we are looking for some good value.

The Tennessee Volunteers will be weaker without Dalton Knecht, but they weren’t a one-man team and look good value at +750.

Also looking good is Auburn at +450. They have a strong-looking playing roster and will be greatly boosted by keeping Johni Broome.
