Switzerland or Canada?
Switzerland (+200) has dominated the Women’s World Curling Championship recently. Not only has Team Tirinzoni claimed four straight gold medals, they’ve gone undefeated in each of the past two years.
Rachel Homan is certainly no pushover, however, skipping Canada (+230) to gold in 2017, silver in 2014 and bronze in 2013. Considered one of the greatest female curlers in her nation’s history, Homan has won the Canadian title, the Scotties Tournament of Hearts, four times (2013, 2014, 2017, 2024) in addition to two runners-up finishes.

Tirinzoni vs Homan
Switzerland and Canada have faced off on the Grand Slam of Curling tour multiple times. In December 2023, Homan picked up an 8-4 victory over Tirinzoni to secure the women’s title at the WFG Masters.
In their rematch a month later at the Co-op Canadian Open championship, the Swiss team led 4-2 after the seventh end. However, Homan scored two points to even it up in the eighth before stealing in extras to win a record-extending 15th career championship on the tour.
Other Contenders
South Korea (+375) is skipped by Gim Eunji, who finished fourth in the 2012 and 2014 world championships. Team Gim ended a six-match losing streak against Team Homan back in November, winning her first Grand Slam of Curling championship with a 7-6 over the Canadians. With the victory, Eunji became the first South Korean team to capture a major title on the tour.
Sweden (+600) is captained by 2018 Olympic champion Anna Hasselborg, who also has two world silver medals on her resume (2018, 2019) and a bronze from the 2022 Beijing Games. Hasselborg lost the semifinal and the bronze medal game to Switzerland and Canada in each of the past two World Championships.

While Switzerland’s four straight world championships suggest they’re unbeatable, Canada has been the hotter team of late. Rachel Homan’s squad has won six of the eight events they’ve played in this season, defeating Tirinzoni in two separate finals.
