Disgraced NBA player Jontay Porter’s woes aren’t over as law enforcement in Canada has now launched a criminal investigation into his match-fixing. The 24-year-old received a lifetime ban from the league in April after intentionally withdrawing from two games with the Toronto Raptors to ensure his accomplices won their player prop bets.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) spokesperson Craig Abrams revealed on Tuesday that the organization’s Investigation and Enforcement Bureau believes this case warrants a criminal probe.

sportsbooks grew suspicious about the activity and reported it to the relevant authorities

While the authorities in New York charged four people for their roles in the scheme, they have not charged Porter yet. The individuals allegedly placed significant wagers on the “under” for Porter prop bets in January and March. Sportsbooks grew suspicious about the activity and reported it to the relevant authorities for further investigation.

In a conversation with ESPN, Abrams said that the OPP is liaising with the federal bodies in the US in this case. Speaking last week about his client, Jontay Porter’s attorney Jeff Jensen said that Porter is fully cooperating with the authorities and is currently getting treatment for his gambling addiction.
