The Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) has appointed Genius Sports to provide AI-enabled player-tracking data in a major deal that covers games in the Europa League, Nations League, and European qualifying match-ups.

On Wednesday, Sportico reported that the deal with European soccer’s administrative body struck on June 15 will see Genius Sports cover 1,350 games and install AI-powered cameras in over 140 stadiums.

Genius Sports took to X earlier this week with an example of the player tracking technology in action for the Canadian Football League:

Genius’ partners, such as the CFL and English Premier League, use the AI-driven data to provide “next gen stats” and enable enhanced game-play feeds for brands broadcasting live games.

Sportico cited a regulatory filing by Genius Sports on Wednesday disclosing the UEFA partnership, which did not reveal any financial aspects. It added that a Genius representative declined to comment and that a UEFA equivalent did not “immediately return an email seeking comment.”

The filing states that UEFA has, however, given Genius the rights to cover the Europa League from the 2024-25 season through the 2026-27 season, and the Nations League and European qualifiers from 2024-25 to 2027-28.
