The only MotoGP race scheduled for July takes place on Sunday when the riders converge on Sachsenring in Hohenstein-Ernstthal, Germany, for the Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland, or the German Grand Prix. Defending MotoGP world champion Francesco Bagnaia, who has never won on this circuit, has been dominant over the past few MotoGP races, winning four of the five competitions and placing third in the race he did not win. Bagnaia looks to tie his personal best of four straight wins in Germany.

With his win in the Dutch GP, Bagnaia moved closer to points leader Jorge Martin, who placed second in the Netherlands. Martin has 200 points on the 2024 MotoGP season, while Bagnaia has 190. The third-place racer in the points standings is Marc Marquez with 142. Marquez, who is the betting favorite to win in Germany, placed 10th in the Dutch GP.

The Sachsenring circuit is 3.67 kilometers in length. The course has three right corners and 10 lefts. The longest straightaway is 700 meters. Bagnaia has the all-time lap record, which he set in 2022 at 1:19.765. The best race lap on the circuit belongs to Johan Zarco with 1:21.225. Marco Bezzecchi holds the top speed record at 305.00 km/hr, which he set in 2023.

2024 Liqui Moly Motorrad Grand Prix Deutschland/German Grand Prix betting picks

Francesco Bagnaia

After a bit of a slow start in the early weeks of the 2024 MotoGP season, the 2022 and 2023 MotoGP world championFrancesco Bagnaia, is dominating and looks like he could be on his way to a third straight MotoGP world championship. The 27-year-old opened the year with a win in Qatar, but then did not finish in Portugal. He then placed fifth in America. Since then, Bagnaia has been on a roll, winning four out of five races and placing third on the one track (France) where he did not earn the checkered flag.

If Bagnaia wins in Germany, it will mark his first victory on this circuit as a MotoGP rider. In three starts on the track, Bagnaia’s best finish came last year when he placed second to Jorge Martin, losing by 0.064 seconds.

With his performance in the past five MotoGP outings and how well he did last year in the German GP, look for the defending MotoGP world champ to be very confident heading into this year’s race. Bagnaia rides for Ducati Lenovo.

Jorge Martin

The 26-year-old Jorge Martin is looking to defend his win in last year’s German GP. This race was one of four victories last year for Martin, who finished as the runner-up in the points standings to Bagnaia. He is currently the points leader in 2024, but his lead has been shrinking with how Bagnaia has been riding over the past few races. Martin needs a good performance this weekend if he hopes to hold onto first place.

Martin, who rides a Ducati for Prima Pramac Racing, has started the 2024 MotoGP season strong with two wins, two second-place finishes, two thirds and one fourth. He did not finish the Spanish GP.

Martin has three starts in Germany, and he has finished all of those races, placing 12th in 2021, sixth in 2022, and then winning in 2023.

Martin is known as an aggressive rider, but he has dialed that in this year and while he may not be winning as many races as Bagnaia, he is consistently at the front of the pack.

Marc Marquez

Heading into the 2024 MotoGP season, the biggest concerns for the legendary Marc Marquez were his health and how he would perform with his new team. After 11 years with Honda, the 30-year-old is now on a Ducati for Gresini Racing. As for his health, Marquez has started all eight MotoGP races in 2024, and outside of not finishing in America, placing 16th in Portugal, and finishing in 10th in the Netherlands, Marquez has been among the top four finishers in his other five starts during the 2024 MotoGP season. However, Marquez is still looking for his first win of 2024. The last time Marquez won a MotoGP race was in 2021, when he placed first three times before finishing the year in the No. 7 spot in the standings.

Marquez has eight starts at the German GP. He won the race in each of those starts. The last time Marquez raced in Germany was in 2021 when he came back from missing three races following arm surgery. Last year, Marquez qualified in seventh in Germany while riding for Honda, but he did not compete after breaking his thumb during warmups.

Marquez is racing well this year, and he has been dominant in Germany when he starts the race.

Best bet to win 2024 MotoGP – German Grand Prix

Marc Marquez is the betting favorite this weekend, and he deserves some consideration when considering a wager on the German Grand Prix. However, Marquez does not present the best betting value at +125. I know that Francesco Bagnaia’s value is not much better at +200, but Bagnaia has been unbeatable as of late, and he did come close to winning this race last year. The betting pick is for Francesco Bagnaia to win the 2024 MotoGP German Grand Prix.
