The 2024 MLB All-Star Game is less than two weeks away. The annual display of MLB’s best will take place on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. That’s the home of the Texas Rangers of the American League, which will be this year’s ASG home team.
The MLB All-Star game starters have already been announced. Starters are chosen by fan vote and there were no surprises. Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the Yankees will both start in the outfield for the American League. Judge leads the majors in home runs (32) and RBI (83) as of Friday, July 5.
There were no surprises on the National League side either. Bryce Harper earned his eighth All-Star selection, though he is injured right now. Teammates Trea Turner and Alec Bohm (3rd in MLB with 70 RBI) will join Harper in the NL starting lineup. Shohei Ohtani, of course, was voted in as the NL’s designated hitter. It’s Ohtani’s fourth straight ASG nod.
With all of the hoopla surrounding the game, how exactly can you bet on the game?
MLB All-Star Game Betting Options
Like regular season MLB games, bettors will have a number of betting options for the 2024 All-Star Game. The obvious bets are the moneyline, run line, and the game total. Bettors will also be able to bet on All-Star game props, but there will be some additional fun wagers. These may include:
- Who will hit the first home run?
- Will there be extra innings?
- Which team will record more strikeouts?
Bettors will also be able to bet on the MLB All-Star game MVP and the annual Home Run Derby. All-Star game odds have not yet been released. The entire rosters for both leagues will be revealed on Sunday, July 7. MLB ASG opening odds will likely be released shortly after.
Betting on the MLB All-Star Game
Betting an MLB All-Star game is a little different than betting a regular season game. When betting during the MLB season, bettors will take into account the pitching matchup as well as the matchup of a team’s lineup versus a starting pitcher. There are the bullpens to consider as well as each teams’ recent form.
In an All-Star game, the rosters are loaded with talent. Starting pitchers typically only pitch one inning making the pitching matchup not as important. What may be more important is the overall roster of pitchers on a given team.
Recent form really doesn’t matter either. What bettors should consider more than a player’s recent form is his motivation. Ask any number of MLB players and they might tell you that it’s a great honor to play in an All-Star game, but they would have been just as happy getting a bunch of days off in the middle of the summer.
The other thing bettors should consider are historical trends. We are in the midst of a huge trend in recent All-Star games. The American League has won 9 of the last 10 All-Star games. The AL won nine straight before last season’s 3-2 National League victory. Elias Diaz hit a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning to give the NL its first win since 2012. Diaz, who was listed at +6500 before the game, was then selected as the game’s MVP.

Betting MLB All-Star Game Totals
Another interesting trend in recent All-Star game history is the tendency for games to go Under the game total. The last four MLB All-Star games all went Under the total. Each of the past two seasons, the final score was 3-2.
Since the 2006 All-Star game, there have been just three occurrences of the All-Star game finishing with a combined run total of more than 8 runs. Two of those games finished with 9 runs scored. The outlier over the last 17 All-Star games came in 2018 when the American League put up 3 runs in the top of the 10th inning to take an 8-6 victory. That was the most runs in an All-Star game since 2002.
Oddsmakers will take into account the Park Factor. When the ASG was played at Coors Field in 2021, the game total was set at 10.5. This year’s game at Globe Life Field could see a total of 8 to 8.5, since it ranks sixth in Park Factor. That means it is more of a hitter-friendly ballpark.
Regardless, even if the total is set at 7.5 or even 7, the Under will definitely be on the minds of All-Star game bettors. The Under is 14-1-2 in the last 16 MLB All-Star games.
