Carl Brincat spent three years as CEO of the Malta Gaming Authority (MGA) from 2021 to January 2024. Now, the former regulatory employee has jumped ship to the other side of the industry, deciding to join LeoVegas AB as Director of Policy and Regulatory Affairs.

Brincat announced that he would leave the MGA last year. His tenure ran out in January 2024, and he confirmed that although he was not resigning, he would not sign a new contract with the regulator. He did not provide any details as to why he would not continue with the MGA.

LeoVegas – which is licensed and regulated by the MGA – has announced that Brincat will join the company in August. A press release praised the progress that Brincat made with the MGA, including new systems and controls to enhance money laundering and new customer care duties for operators.

Abby Cosgrave, Chief Legal Compliance Officer for LeoVegas, said Brincat “brings an impressive wealth of experience” from the MGA, which she said will prove “a great asset” as the Swedish gaming company continues its international expansion.

Meanwhile, Brincat expressed excitement at the new role. “I can’t wait to lead the team in supporting the plans to expand commercially while continuing to enhance the already excellent relationships with regulators and policymakers around the globe,” he stated.
