Eredivisie Outright Odds: Who do Sportsbooks Favor?

PSV are the favorites to win the Eredivisie championship again, and are even odds-on favorites to do so at (-110). Feyenoord, last year’s runners-up, are priced at (+275). That leaves iconic Ajax Amsterdam in 3rd at (+325). The remaining candidates are considered to be far off the pack with AZ Alkmaar and Twente. Every other team is (+8000) or greater.

PSV Favorites to Repeat in 2024-25

PSV were deserved winners of the Eredivisie after a league-leading offense and defense. Conceding only 21 goals and scoring 111, no team bested those numbers. It was PSV’s first championship in six years. PSV have now won 25 Eredivisie titles, firmly ahead of Feyenoord’s 16 but still well behind Ajax’s record 36. The club only lost once all season, for what it’s worth.

A shared offensive attack consisting of Luuk de Jong, Johan Bakayoko, Malik Tillman, Joey Veerman and Jordan Teze propelled the club to a 1st-placed finish. Their finishing prowess was on display in their curtain-raiser over the weekend in a 5-1 victory over RKC Waalwijk. Tillman, along with wing-back Sergino Dest, have now made their loans permanent and will join the club on a full-time capacity. Dest will be on the sidelines for the majority of the season, however, after suffering a torn ACL towards the end of last season. The American international seemed to have found a groove in the Netherlands after struggling for minutes at FC Barcelona.

PSV also went out of their way to acquire younger players over the summer. Ryan Flamingo and Couhaib Driouech will hope to find some playing time and make an impact with the defending champs.

Eredivisie Betting: Why Feyenoord are the Best Bet

Feyenoord is hoping to return the top-flight Dutch soccer trophy back to their headquarters after winning it in 2022-23. And according to expected points statistics, they actually performed strongly enough to warrant a title-winning year last time out. Feyenoord earned 89.27 expected points, just ahead of PSV at 89.06. This indicates the crowned champions actually performed above expectations, and Feyenoord were actually a bit unlucky to finish as runners-up.

Santi Gimenez made a lot of noise in the Eredivisie as a young Mexican striker with incredible goal-scoring ability. The forward finished with 23 goals last term, making a push in the Golden Boot race. Calvin Stengs was a great partner-in-crime for Gimenez, assisting on many goals with beautiful set-ups in transition and in traditional attacking formations. Feyenoord’s defense was nothing to sleep on either.

Indeed, their backline conceded just 26 times throughout the year, with some impressive clean sheets to boot. A 4-0 victory over Ajax, their bitter rivals, was followed by a 6-0 demolition on their home turf. Those victories felt like trophy-winning performances on their own, and left Feyenoord fans with great pride and hope they could go back-to-back in Eredivisie. It turned out not to be, but their campaign was certainly title-worthy had PSV not accrued a whopping 93 points.

I believe Feyenoord are the best Dutch team in the world and the Eredivisie betting lines should be much closer. Advanced statistics indicate they under-performed while PSV over-performed, leading to some value in the Eredivisie outright odds market. I think a bet on Feyenoord to win it all this season merits a look.

Can AZ Alkmaar or Twente Win it All?

Ajax are typically one of the favorites to hoist the Dutch trophy, and they are pegged as the third-highest favorites to do so. But their fifth-placed finish in 2023-24 seems like something of a miracle considering the miserable start to their campaign. In addition, the club went through a carousel of interim and replacement managers, let alone an ever-changing front office. Despite their resurgence, this season still feels like part of a transitionary period for Ajax Amsterdam.

With Ajax still licking the wounds of their second-round cup exit and numerous embarrassing home performances, there is room for AZ Alkmaar and Twente to steal a top-3 finish in Eredivisie, if not higher. My projections indicate the two should have finished in the top 4, as they did.

Maarten Martens came in clutch for AZ Alkmaar in replacement of their former boss Pascal Jansen, who was exiled due to a shock loss in the KNVB Cup. Vangelis Pavlidis continued to score in bunches, accruing 29 over the course of 2023-24. But he has departed, leaving AZ Alkmaar with Troy Parrott in his stead.

Twente are now finishers in the top 4 three of the last five seasons, thanks to the management of Joseph Oosting. A title-winning campaign would be near-ground-breaking for the club, as they have only one once in their history.

Odds are accurate at time of writing but subject to change.
