Despite his lead and six wins this year, the 26-year-old is not a lock to repeat as MotoGP champion, but a lot needs to go right for Martin to unseat Bagnaia at the top of the points race this year.
Not long ago, Bagnaia had a 66-point lead over the MotoGP pack. That cushion made the Ducati rider an overwhelming favorite to win his second straight MotoGP title. However, Bagnaia hit a rough patch between Week 11 and Week 13 of the 2023 MotoGP season. The win was only his second top-three finish of the year, as Di Giannantonio placed third in Australia. He followed that finish by placing ninth in Thailand and Malaysia.
Di Giannantonio placed 15th in the 2022 running of the Valencia GP. Considering the stakes in this weekend’s competition, I would put him down as a monster-betting underdog to win back-to-back races.
