The 2024 PDC Darts World Championships get underway at the Alexandra Palace in London on Friday. A total of 96 of the world’s top players will be at the Ally Pally for the showpiece event of the darting calendar, and with this being the biggest and best darts competition in the world, there are plenty of good value props bets for us to get stuck into.

  • What; 2024 PDC World Darts Championship
  • When; Friday, December 15th, 2023 – Wednesday, January 3rd, 2024
  • Where; Alexandra Palace, London, England
  • Defending Champion; Michael Smith +1400
  • Favorite to Win; Luke Humphries +325

Before we look at the best of the PDC World Darts Championship props markets, let’s first take a look at the betting to win the championship outright.

Betting to win the 2024 PDC Darts World Championship

The favorite to win the title is Englishman Luke Humphries. Humphries is the in-form player in World Darts, having won three ranking events over the past two months.

The No.3 seed for the world title first won the World Grand Prix in October, beating Gerwyn Price in the final. Humphries followed that up with a victory in the Grand Slam of Darts, where he thrashed Rob Cross 16-8 in the final.

Then, at the end of November came arguably his biggest win of the lot at the 2023 Players Championship. The Players Championship Finals aren’t regarded as Darts Majors, but Humphries’ win in the final came against a certain Michael van Gerwen. This was the win Humphries was looking for. He now knows he can beat anybody in World Darts.

As a result of his performances over the past two months, Luke Humphries is now the +325 favorite to win the 2024 PDC Darts World Championship. Rather ominously, MVG is the second favorite at +350. The fact that van Gerwen also got to the final of the Players Championship shouldn’t be overlooked. And when MVG was on song early in the match, he was taking Humphries apart with ease.

MVG couldn’t maintain his form in the final and eventually lost 11-9. But he completed a nine-darter and did give us a glimpse of how he is still the best player in the world when he is on song.

Total Tournament 170 Checkouts Betting

Now, onto our darts props betting picks, and the first market we are looking at is the Total Tournament 170 Checkouts. This is an over or under-market with the spread set at 4.5. The bookmakers make it -170 for over 4.5 maximum checkouts and +140 for under 4.5.

Last year, six players scored a 170 checkout, and three players did it in the recent Grand Slam of Darts. The Grand Slam is a far shorter tournament than the World Championships, so we would expect overs to win here.

Which Half will the Winner come from?

BetOnline is offering -140 for the winner of the PDC Darts World Championship to come from the bottom half of the draw. This is the half that houses both Michael van Gerwen and Luke Humphries. For the winner to come from the top half of the draw, you can get odds of +110.

We believe MVG is the more likely winner of the bottom half of the draw. We see him beating Humphries in the sets format at the Ally Pally. But when you look at the names in the top half of the draw, it includes the current World Champion Michael Smith, and former World Champions Gerwyn Price, Peter Wright, Gary Anderson, and Rob Cross.

Back the winner to come from the top half of the draw. It’s a far better value option.

Which Quarter will the Winner come from?

The 4th Quarter is the favorite (+225) in this market – this is the section Luke Humphries finds himself in. Second in the betting is the 3rd Quarter at +240, which is home to MVG and Josh Rock.

The 2nd Quarter is +250, and where you will find Gerwyn Price, Gary Anderson, and Peter Wright, three recent World Champions. Finally, the 1st Quarter is +350 and boasts Rob Cross and the current World Champ, Michael Smith.

This market is heavily influenced by the outright winner odds, meaning the quarter with Luke Humphries in is the favorite. We don’t feel Humphries will win and are picking the 2nd Quarter for our betting pick.

Will there be a nine-dart finish?

There was one nine-dart finish in the 2023 tournament, achieved by Michael Smith in the final, in what is known as the greatest leg of darts in history.

There were three in 2022, one in 2021, none in 2020, and none in 2019. A nine-darter is far rarer than a 170 checkout. Yes is -185, and no is +155. We believe this is a 50/50 bet, so we are backing no for our betting pick at +155.
