Reports of a shooting at MGM Grand Hotel & Casino have turned out to be a false alarm, with authorities stating that the Las Vegas casino was the target of a swatting call. This is when someone makes a hoax phone call to report serious crimes to the emergency services.

News of the incident first came to light on Wednesday night. Local news site Las Vegas Locally took to social media to share reports of the ongoing situation, which had drawn in a “huge police presence:”

Several people took to X to express their worry. One X user called FlyEagles wanted to know if the situation was “active or contained” as they had family members working at the casino.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department later confirmed that reports of a shooting were “unfounded” and that they believed the casino was the victim of a swatting call.
